“I didn't know talking about alien farts would be so productive”
Methanogen
Hello. My name is Methanogen.
Well not really but that's what you'll know me as. Some people will probably abbreviate that name into Meth, which should not be confused for other stuff.
I have an interest in Spore, aliens, and especially exotic alternative biochemistries for said aliens, though I am certainly no expert on the topic myself and tend to try to validate my ideas via internet research. Which is probably not all too accurate but it works well enough for me.
I enjoy creating fictional universes so really it's no surprise I eventually stumbled upon SporeWiki.
My creature, vehicle and building creation isn't the best but I hope to make up with that with writing quality. The key word in that sentence is "hope". I've discovered that my favourite thing to make remains hideous abominations of nature, so I make up for sucking at humanoid designs by creating monstrosities instead.
I currently have a few fictional species. The first are the Yorchi, silicon-sulfur based creatures who drink sulfuric acid and live on a world that is like a combination of Earth and Venus. The second are the Eriaroons, carbon-based aquatic intelligent beings with radial symmetry who developed society without sunlight. Both are located in the Milky Way Galaxy. I keep alternating on which one I prefer which given the fact I've barely been here that much and haven't really done anything with either of them is quite an accomplishment. Now I have also created the Midnight Sanctuary, a society of organ-harvesters native to the Tuuros Galaxy, and specifically the Schism.
The goal of my fiction is to be interesting to read. I am yet to create am actual fictional story though I hope that such a state of affairs won't last for too long. Update on this: I have an ongoing war now. Let's hope it goes well.
Don't be afraid to leave any feedback on my fiction. I appreciate all of it, negative and positive. Also feel free to message me for, well, any reason. It helps to motivate me to actually get stuff done.
Speaking of which, I'm trying a war out. Wish me luck with writing that. Oh yeah, I'm back from a hiatus. Turns out the Eriaroons got featured while I was away, which was certainly a shocking though welcome surprise for my return. I took another hiatus for a while, and upon my return, the Yorchi Union got featured, which was again pretty surprising (especially since it tied...with the Eriaroon Eugenic Republic).
My current goals are as follows: to flesh out more of my societies in terms of history, characters, culture, and military, to complete the Eriaroon-Yorchi Conflict, to begin more interaction with other members of the Fiction Universe, and to get better at making decent-looking creations. I’ve also begun work on the Volzhkerix, which has been a lot of fun. And then I made the Universal Allegiance, and the Ic'ogokip Tandem. Then the Panacea Foundation, and now the Simultaneity!
Here's a quick rundown of my fiction for those in a hurry! Or who want to laugh at me trying to explain my crazy ideas in a quick paragraph!
The Yorchi Union, a small but militaristic power notable for being spacefaring yet relying on round shot for most of their ammunition, a division between brutal and just brutally pragmatic dictatorial officials, and having aerial battleship zeppelins. The species who rules over them are the Yorchi, infernal monstrosities who use sulphuric acid as a solvent and require a scorched planet to not immediately die.
The Eriaroon Eugenic Republic, a theocratic meritocracy where those deemed degenerate are purged, the universe is thought of as the afterlife of the unworthy, and aliens are considered demonic inhabitants of the hell in which they now live. The dominant species are the Eriaroons, abyssal radially symmetrical cephalopods capable of bioluminescence and with incredible brains that crush against their skull so they die at the age of 26.
The Midnight Sanctuary, a society dedicated to finding flawlessness in a variety of ways, but mainly by conducting organ harvesting operations, all while proclaiming itself a sanctuary against the horrors of the admittedly horrific Tuuros galaxy. While host to many species, the one with a page are the Alvakyoids, a race of trilaterally symmetrical, towering figures with the power to drain light from any area they stand in and who feast upon cosmic radiation.
The Volzhkerix Supercommunity, an oligarchy defined by its tyrannical oppression of the biological caste that would otherwise tyrannically oppress the present oppressors. The species here are the Volzhkerix, eusocial jellyfish-bugs with a strict caste division that defines much of their society, ranging from near-mindless drones to intelligent soldiers to commanding queens. Also note the Crown Exiles, a faction of Volzhkerix ruled by a queen.
The Universal Allegiance, a tyrannical state where the entire universe is the Great Enemy, every planet thinks its the centre of things, and a circle of sixteen rules while not knowing the true identities of its members. This one is populated mainly by the Vishori species, strange beings that are bipedal but eyeless, instead using crests to detect radiation from their homeworld's pulsar star.- The Reticulum, a bizarre astral super-organism I really need to work on someday.
- The
Panacea Foundation, a medical association with an impressive array of species and vessels by Methanogen standards, and which seeks to promote a message of wellbeing and harmony while probably still having dystopian elements because I made it. - The Ic'ogokip Tandem, a collection of nations united by a pseudo-democratic government that is known for being somewhat aggressive. It is host to the Ic'ogokip, a species of crustaceans based off of both mantis shrimp and pistol shrimp, with sexual dimorphism, domination displays, and an apostrophe that makes it really annoying to link them properly.
The Simultaneity, a multi-species union linked together by a mental internet called the synchronet, known for being expansionist but gradually so, using dead bodies animated by technology as its soldiers, and having a flag that looks like a brainwave pattern. The dominant species here are the Zamuth, terrestrial nautiloids with nerve nets that allow them to conduct many parallel conscious thought processes at once, and for their awkward gait.- The Karnabouk species, whose civilisation I have not yet defined well. Fleshy cyclopean tripeds with thick exoskeletal armour, they inhabit a volcanic marsh world, and are known for their strong immune systems and their general lack of misery even in harsh circumstances.
The Cosmic Bloom, a society based upon endless proliferation, expansion and consumption of world after world. This civilisation is dominated the Myxi, terrestrial cnidarians with the ability to generate and manipulate electrical currents and an unusual and complex life cycle.
The Polyhedral Stellation, an enigmatic collective devoted to knowledge and calculation. The Polyhedral species composes this society, a biologically augmented race of logical and mathematical mollusco-arthropods designed for void habitation.- The Kholrou Pact, an unfinished despotic hegemony ruled by the closest I can apparently come to a truly mammamlian species. The dominant species, the Razhmi, developed as aggressive and territorial pack hunters, a mentality they took with them to the stars.
- The
Pan-Stellar Cooperative, an alliance between five species that made first contact before they even developed space travel. While mainly an examination of interstellar development and governance, the Cooperative also has a variety of eccentric species, both prominent and less prominent, and is probably one of my least depressing fictions so far. - The
Ytsiri Manifest, an undefined society once intended for the Cyranai Galaxy. The main species here are the Ytsiri, anomalocarid-inspired aquatic pack hunters native to a hycean planet. - The
Coalition of Planetary Administrations, a mecha-inspired civilisation host to oversized megastructures to fit the immense scale of such themes. Their dominant species are the Sybarians, a relatively humanoid race (by my standards) of amphibian-arthropoids. - The
Syntropy, a culmination of many previous fictions undertaken as a thought experiment as to what a unified Methanogen-verse would look like.
In terms of current and future plans, here is a general categorisation of my intentions:
Complete fiction: Fiction that, in its current state, is comprehensive and complete, requiring only small adjustments to keep up with the timeline.
Developed fiction: Fiction that is mostly complete, but still needs work in some minor areas to be fully comprehensive.
Developing fiction: Incomplete fiction that I intend to more fully develop or take in new directions.
Underdeveloped fiction: Incomplete (or even unmade) fiction I am unsure whether to continue work on:
Panacea Foundation- Ic'ogokip Tandem
- Karnabouk Coalescence
- Kholrou Pact
Ytsiri Manifest
Coalition of Planetary Administrations
Abandoned fiction: Fiction that I do not intend to continue with, listed here for posterity's sake.
