“Economic civilizations use cash and trade routes to influence other nations. They'll form alliances, but it's usually a better deal for them.”
- - In-Game description
The Military card awarded to species.
Economic is a national specialty in the Civilization Stage of Spore. The player start with an economic city upon advancing from the Tribal Stage as Industrious. Rivaling economic cities only spawn as small cities and are usually taken over fairly quickly by more powerful civilizations. Despite clearly forming trade routes with other small cities, rival economic cities will never buy other cities.
Economic Consequence Abilities
Space stage
Spice Savant: "This ability increases spice production from all your colonies."
Gaining The Economic Trait
The economic trait is gained by purchasing cities through the Trade of Spice. It is possible, but difficult to gain the trait if you didn't start out as an Economic nation; as these nations appear less frequently during Civilization Stage, and other nations often destroy these nations shortly after they start out. This is the most peaceful way of capturing cities, but it can be expensive. It also poses the least threat to your nation should trade fail.
Raiding tribe villages can be helpful if you didn't start as Economic, since a single Economic vehicle can capture a city on its own (though it'll be very slow - make sure the city you're trading with isn't at risk of being captured by another nation or you will have to start over again). This will count as an economic capture and you will be able to convert the city to Economic, even if neither you nor the city itself was originally Economic. Just be careful the vehicle isn't destroyed by a hostile nation or an Epic.
In-game dialogue
The Economic nations' unique voice is similar to that of a middle-aged adult female, sounding mostly like they are speaking gibberish with a British accent. Colonies of player-controlled empires in the space stage can also have this voice.
